CES 2021 Puts a Focus on Digital Health and Interoperability

As historically one of the world’s largest technology trade shows of the year, the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2021 kicked off this week as a virtual event, and is putting a bright spotlight on digital health.

With the COVID-19 pandemic reinforcing the value of health IT in 2020, the conference will be highlighting a number of new innovations in the telehealth, data analytics and exchange, and wearable arenas.

In terms of health data exchange, CES 2021 will focus on how remote medical care is keeping track of health data and using analytics tools to better understand the risks for COVID-19, as well as other diseases. For example, new mobile applications that allow physicians to access patient data in remote environments are now coming to the forefront.

As we saw with how HIMSS re-positioned itself to focus on the broader healthcare ecosystem, to promote, support and bring about the full health potential of every human, everywhere, the data and the exchange of data is the foundation for evolution.

For many of the HIT companies who are virtually exhibiting at CES 2021, this trend points to an increasing need to have interoperability capabilities fully integrated into their offerings.

By providing this capability, it makes it easier for hospital, health systems and payer customers to fully leverage their solutions in ways that enhance the care continuum.  Of course, health data exchange and data blocking have become a significant enough issue that the ONC is addressing it with its interoperability rule.

By leveraging the RosettaHealth HealthBus solution, HIT providers can take advantage of an easy-to-use SaaS-based offering that enables full health information exchange capabilities for sending and receiving all standardized exchange formats.

Health data and patient record exchange will only grow further in importance in the overall care ecosystem. Knowledge is power, and getting patient data into the right hands at the right time should be a capability that all health technology providers offer.
