State of California Launching Statewide HIE
With a population of 40 million spread over 58 counties, the state of California serves a massively large patient population, reinforcing the need for health data exchange capabilities.
As something that has been in discussions for many months, the state is preparing to launch its long-awaited statewide health information exchange (HIE) to improve patient data sharing between payers and healthcare providers throughout the state.
In the past, data exchanges were largely fragmented in California, and a framework for the data exchange program is supposed to be completed by the California Health and Human Services Agency this July.
In addition to allowing providers to gain access to patient health information, giving them insight into preexisting health conditions, the new HIE also aims to improve patient outcomes for low-income, minority, and multicultural patients experiencing social determinants of health.
As highlighted by EHR Intelligence, the California HIE would join the list of 46 other states to implement and launch a statewide health information exchange.
For statewide HIEs, RosettaHealth offers HealthBus, a SaaS-based solution that enables full health information exchange capabilities for sending and receiving all standardized exchange formats. It also offers real-time network analytics capabilities, which include detailed connection status as well as metrics and logs about each facility, feed or protocol.
