CommonWell Introduces New TEFCA-Enabled Platform

With Carequality aiming to align with TEFCA and Epic planning on having all of its clients committed to using the framework, it seems that TEFCA is everywhere in the health IT news cycle.

On the heels of this news over the past couple of weeks, the CommonWell Health Alliance, a healthcare interoperability organization, announced significant advancements in its platform, specifically the introduction of its TEFCA-ready platform.

“The go-live of our new platform represents a significant leap forward in our efforts to enhance healthcare interoperability,” said Paul L. Wilder, Executive Director of CommonWell stated. “This empowers us to deliver on our promise of making critical health data accessible whenever and wherever it is needed. Plus, incorporating TEFCA services into the platform ensures that we are at the forefront of national health information exchange initiatives.”

The new TEFCA-enabled platform will ensure compliance with national standards for health information exchange while extending connectivity to a broader network of healthcare providers, ensuring that more patients benefit from the seamless exchange of health information.

It will also come with state-of-the-art security measures, streamlined workflows for more efficient data management and improved patient coordination, as well as simplified onboarding for health IT vendors wishing to connect their clients to the network.

In the press release announcing this new platform, CommonWell also highlighted how its QHIN designation, which was announced in February, is a critical step in aligning with TEFCA. Carequality access was also enabled in April and CommonWell connected the new platform to its legacy systems – ensuring seamless continuity for its members during the transition in July.

Last month, we also highlighted how DirectTrust is focused on how TEFCA can enable FHIR API transactions supported by its network. In addition, 64 percent of U.S. hospitals plan to participate in TEFCA.

As we discussed earlier this summer, perhaps now is the time for TEFCA to come to life? All signs seem to be pointing in this very important direction.
