Now’s the time to turn health data interoperability actions into outcomes with a vision towards the future, according to the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC).

This vision is part of the ONC’s “Health Interoperability Outcomes 2030” project, which will gain public feedback from health IT industry leaders to create a prioritized set of interoperability outcomes that health IT leaders hope to achieve by 2030.

“As we emerge from the COVID-19 pandemic, it is without question that the Cures Act will continue to play a distinct role in our work. However, we also find ourselves at the start of a new decade with a remarkable opportunity to look ahead. To that end, ONC has launched a new project called Health Interoperability Outcomes 2030,” said Steven Posnack, Deputy National Coordinator at the ONC, in this blog post.

As highlighted in this recent Becker’s Hospital Review article, the ONC will accept responses to what Mr. Posnack referred to as an “Interoperability Mad Lib.” The exercise has two examples: “Because of interoperability, ______ before/by 2030" and "Because of interoperability, before/by 2030 [who] will [what].”

Participants can submit their responses at HealthIT.gov/HealthInterop2030 or on Twitter @ONC_HealthIT with #HealthInterop2030. ONC will accept submissions through July 30, 2021.
