HIEs Help Providers to Meet CMS Interoperability Rules
Health Information Exchanges (HIE) offer the most-optimal route for care providers to meet new CMS interoperability rules for sharing patient information via the ADT messaging standard, according to the CommonWell Health Alliance.
As highlighted in a recent EHR Intelligence interview, Paul Wilder, Executive Director of CommonWell Health Alliance, discussed how event notifications encourage provider-to-provider communication for enhanced care coordination, and cost-savings.
This is in response to the CMS Interoperability and Patient Access final rule that requires providers to demonstrate that their EHR can send patient event notifications via the ADT messaging standard with other primary care practitioners and groups.
In the article, Wilder discusses the challenges that come with meeting the new ADT messaging standard, which include contact information for post-acute care providers often not being EHR systems, as well as how the final rule does not clearly describe how care organizations can send and receive messages.
Fortunately, there are industry solutions for enhancing this health data sharing process. For example, RosettaHealth’s HISPDirect solution provides the flexibility and control for managing post-acute and chronic care with ADT event notifications, public and population data reporting, as well as replacing PDF images with electronic medical records.
In addition, earlier this year, the HISPDirect solution achieved DirectTrust™ HISP Accreditation, and was found to be fully in compliance with the Direct Standard™ and the requirements of the DirectTrust Security and Trust framework.
