New Study: COVID-19 Boosts Knowledge of Interoperability Rules
The unprecedented and rapid response to the COVID-19 pandemic has accelerated the use of health IT solutions, as well as the understanding of new interoperability rules, by care providers.
This was the key finding of a recent Google Cloud study, which was published just before the HIMSS 2021 Conference.
In addition, the report found that 90 percent of providers now use telehealth solutions (it was only 32 percent before the pandemic), and that better patient data interoperability will alleviate physician burnout and improve care outcomes.
Specifically, 86 percent of the respondents said that increased data interoperability will significantly cut back on the time it takes to diagnose patients. Ninety five percent reported that greater interoperability will ultimately help improve patient outcomes.
One of the more interesting findings was that familiarity with ONC data interoperability rules increased. Seventy percent of the respondents believe that the rules will ultimately force EHRs to be more interoperable with other systems.
This study certainly shines a clear light on how and why care providers believe that data interoperability is critical. In addition, while health data exchange has always been a core challenge in the care arena, the reality is that there are many industry players who are effectively bringing interoperability to life.
For example, RosettaHealth's HealthBus is a SaaS-based solution that enables full health information exchange capabilities for sending and receiving all standardized exchange formats. It also offers real-time network analytics capabilities, which include detailed connection status as well as metrics and logs about each facility, feed or protocol.
With health data interoperability rising in importance in the minds of care providers overall, now’s the ideal time to explore solutions that can connect the whole world of healthcare.
