The Sequoia Project Previews TEFCA Interoperability Infrastructure
Recognized by the ONC as the as the Recognized Coordinating Entity (RCE) for implementation of the Trusted Exchange Framework and Common Agreement (TEFCA) interoperability infrastructure, The Sequoia Project recently released Elements of the Common Agreement for stakeholder feedback.
With a deadline of October 21st for providing feedback, the Elements of the Common Agreement will “establish the infrastructure model and governing approach for users in different information exchange networks (“networks”) to securely share clinical information with each other – all under commonly agreed-to expectations and rules, regardless of which network they happen to be in.”
The Common Agreement aims to provide the governing approach necessary to connect and scale the interconnected Qualified Health Information Networks, or QHINs. According to a recent EHR Intelligence article, the elements provided by The Sequoia Project include:
TEFCA information and required information
Governing approach to exchange activities under the Common Agreement
QHIN designation and eligibility criteria
Cooperation and nondiscrimination
RCE directory service
Individual access services
Privacy and security
As part of an educational campaign behind this effort, The Sequoia Project is hosting a number of webinars, which will cover elements of the common agreement part one, part two, and part three.
Here’s the full timeline from the ONC for making TEFCA fully operational by 2022.
