Last week, Collabrity Health announced the launch of a consortium that will empower health information exchange (HIEs) to increase patient access to healthcare through interoperability and accelerate HIEs to scale, grow, and innovate.

The organization’s members will benefit from HIE as a managed service (HIEaaS) to include shared interoperability services, infrastructure, and security and privacy controls, thereby driving efficiency, innovation, and measurable value. This model allows Collabrity’s HIEs to focus on the business, value creation, and mission of enhancing public healthcare in the United States.

Collabrity founding members Cognosante, HealtHIE Nevada, and RosettaHealth all played a role in creating this effort.

According to this recent EHR Intelligence article, non-profit HIEs can join Collabrity Health to reduce their operating costs, onboard new members quicker, reduce time to market for enhancements to HIE functionality, and increase revenue opportunities with shared service offerings, according to the company.

Cognosante also put out its own announcement about this effort last week, which was picked up by ExecutiveBiz.

“This new shared resource model helps HIEs bring their solutions to market faster, ultimately improving the efficiency and quality of healthcare delivery,” says Erick Peters, Chief Technology Officer at Cognosante. “We are proud to provide transformational thinking to healthcare’s most demanding challenges via this new partnership. Together with our partner members HealtHIE Nevada and RosettaHealth, Collabrity Health empowers HIEs nationwide to maximize their valuable role in improving healthcare while ensuring their fiscal and business sustainability.”

These kinds of efforts will further strengthen the roll of HIEs when it comes to simplifying the widespread interoperability in the healthcare industry – a key component in enhancing overall care quality while also driving down overall costs.
