HealtHIE Nevada Receives Grant to Bolster COVID-19 Contact Tracing
As the COVID-19 pandemic continues on today, HIEs are playing a key role in fostering health data exchange – especially with regards to contact tracing and vaccination rollout.
Along these lines, the State of Nevada recently announced that it received a HHS grant for COVID-19 prevention and training. As part of this package, HealtHIE Nevada is receiving funds to help efforts to improve data quality for assisting public health agencies with contract tracing.
Nevada’s state-wide health information exchange (HIE) has been at the forefront of enhancing health data sharing, even during the early days of the pandemic. As highlighted in this EHR Intelligence article, HealtHIE Nevada saw a 36 percent increase in patient data exchange from March through May 2020.
In addition, the organization announced a connection to the Southern Nevada Health District (SNHD) to increase COVID-19 data surveillance last summer. As a part of this connection, the HIE has already sent hundreds of COVID-19 inpatient alerts to the public health organization.
Earlier in 2020, HealtHIE Nevada and the public health organization began to develop electronic case reporting (eCR), which streamlined clinical data from HealtHIE Nevada to SNHD’s disease surveillance system.
As highlighted in this recent EHR Intelligence article, HealtHIE Nevada partnered with RosettaHealth in 2019, to use its HealthBus solution to easily translate health data transport protocols. This enabled the HIE to streamline patient registration and provide patient data to all providers during and after patient care.
For health care facilities, this technology allows them to easily share patient data and access the medical records contained in the HIE directly from within their own EHRs. This enhanced ability to retrieve patient data from HealtHIE Nevada is key in reducing physician burnout and streamlining use of the full patient-centric medical record contained in the HIE.
HealthBus is a SaaS-based solution that enables full HIE capabilities for sending and receiving all standardized exchange formats, such as IHE (push, query-retrieve), Health Level-7 (HL7) Virtual Private Networks (VPNs), direct messaging and Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (FHIR). HealthBus offers real-time network analytics capabilities, which include detailed connection status as well as metrics and logs about each facility, feed or protocol.
