Role of HIEs in Value-Based Care and Payer Interoperability

With data growing in size and scope, increasingly HIEs are playing a role in advancing value-based care – and turning information into knowledge for their participants.

This was the key theme of a recent Healthcare IT News article, which gave a preview of what Wisconsin Statewide Health Information Network CEO Joe Kachelski will be presenting at HIMSS 2022. He will also be highlighting how his organization was one of the first HIEs in the country to participate in the eHealth Exchange, and he believes that supporting value-based care must be mandatory for HIEs.

In other HIE-related new, EHR Intelligence recently ran an article about how ClinicalConnect Health Information Exchange (CCHIE) is making interoperability advances beyond the provider level, but to payers as well.

Specifically, the HIE has been purchasing additional products to incorporate healthcare payers into the mix by aggregating patient data for quality reporting initiatives. According to Phyllis Szymanski, President of CCHIE, HIEs should be mediators between the provider and payer populations, and should have the agility to provide down-stream, aggregated data to payers.

When it comes to industry solutions for facilitating this type of vision, RosettaHealth has a long history of helping HIEs to best advance their missions through improved connectivity and efficiency in health data exchange.

For example, in 2020, we announced that HASA, the non-profit, community HIE for North, South and West Texas, joined eHealth Exchange. This was facilitated through the use of RosettaHealth’s multi-tenant health data exchange platform, which simplifies moving, transforming, and managing electronic health records while reducing costs by 50 percent.

Ideal for HIEs, the RosettaHealth HealthBus platform leverages technology, server-less, and cloud infrastructure to provide scalable, secure information transport, data wrangling, and orchestration services – removing development time, cost and maintenance of in-house infrastructure.
