The Year of Easy Connections to National Networks

Late 2023 marked a significant milestone when it came to health data exchange, which was the official launch of the Trusted Exchange Framework and Common Agreement (TEFCA).

Now, early into 2024, the ONC recently published Draft USCDI v5, as well as the CMS Interoperability and Prior Authorization Final Rule. All of these developments point to a future where care organizations can gain easier connections to national networks.

For example, Carequality is an interoperability framework that enables data exchange among health information networks on a national level. It supports the exchange of more than 300 million documents each month.

It’s actually possible to outsource your connection to Carequality, and allow industry providers to do all of the heavy lifting for you. In the coming weeks, RosettaHealth will be offering a Carequality solution that connects to additional facilities and receives and queries medical records, while granting access to Carequality.

This new self-service national network product will greatly reduce costs and the time to integrate and test for smaller organizations wanting to join in. Bringing more sources onto the national networks will make the journey smoother for all organizations in the overall care ecosystem.

In addition, in late 2022 we published a blog post that outlines the key steps for making easy connections to the Carequality Interoperability Framework.

While the news seems to be around AI in healthcare in 2024, an equally important story is that we will be seeing easier access to health data exchange capabilities that will make interoperability nearly ubiquitous.
