Enabling Access to Electronic Medical Records for Telehealth Providers

HDuring the COVID-19 pandemic, there was a significant rise in the use of telehealth solutions, as well as an emergence of new innovations and industry players in the virtual care arena.

Fast-forward to today, patients are primarily using telehealth solutions for prescription renewals and follow-up visits, according to a new study from Elevance Health.

The study found that prescription renewals accounted for 71 percent of virtual visits, while follow-up came in at 62 percent and wellness visits at 51 percent.

Overall, based on a survey of 2,000 U.S. adults in July 2023, 81 percent of the study’s participants found that virtual care is convenient and accessible, especially for those unable to visit a doctor in-person due to a lack of transportation or childcare, working several jobs, or a disability.

One of the more significant takeaways is that 83 percent of those surveyed want their virtual care to be integrated with their existing healthcare services and medical records.

For example, a patient’s medical history should be easily shared among multiple providers, even if they use different systems.  For telehealth providers, this means integrating solutions that enable the seamless access and sharing of medical records.

Earlier this month, RosettaHealth launched GetPatientRecords, which simplifies access to electronic medical records anywhere in the nation through a very simple integration.

The new solution provides instant and secure access to vital patient information without the need for manual processes or individual interfaces to Electronic Health Records (EHR) or heavy HIT systems. GetPatientRecords enables very simple patient queries using just patient names and geographic areas – removing many of the hurdles for effective health data exchange.

Leveraging RosettaHealth’s intuitive FHIR API, the new platform also seamlessly connects to national networks such as CareQuality, eHealth Exchange, and Commonwell.

With virtual care living on well after the pandemic, now’s the time for telehealth providers to leverage key solutions that enable the seamless sharing of patient data, to ultimately put virtual care at the center of the care continuum.
